DAYS - "Za kraj agusta smokvu va usta", island of Krk DATE: 29th August - 6th September 2009 WEB PAGE: www.krk.hr MANIFESTATION SUMMARY: It has been created as an event that will ennoble and enrich the tourist products on offer on the island of Krk; prompt restocking fig trees on the island, encourage the islanders to promote again the production, drying and making products from figs, promote the golden island through its «golden» heritage, tell the story of the island's identity to all those who come to the island, respond to the wishes and requirements of modern tourists, excursionists, passersby, and every chance traveler who decided to cross the sea - to come to the island of Krk... On the island, and in our area in general, fig cultivation has been unjustly neglected, as opposed to some other fruit, figs have not been studied enough, and more advanced agro-technical measures are virtually unknown in fig production. If we consider the fact that a fig-tree, provided it receives good care, can live up to 70 years, and that there have hardly been any new plants in the last decades, it is easy to conclude that figs are slowly disappearing from our islands and from the coast. This gastronomic manifestation will certainly encourage and educate people to revive our dear fig-tree. |
| FISHING DAY (RIBARSKI DAN)
is a traditional event that was held in Baska for the first time in
1910, and involved a fishing net pulling competition on the beach. Today it is an event that is mainly organised for tourists, and is held every year at the beginning of August. On fishing day, guests are offered an abundance of folklore events and parties. |
